PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

As Term 3 draws to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on the achievements, growth, and maturity shown by our Exeter High School community. This term has been filled with rich learning experiences in Core subjects, amazing projects in our Option classes, continued development of our Hands on Learning program, and extra curricula opportunities such as the recent Cairns trip. These opportunities and experiences continue to shape our students into confident, capable young people.
We’ve seen outstanding participation in sporting teams within the Tamar community, creative arts showcases such as the recent Rock Challenge, and academic competition participation in the Maths Relay. Our staff have worked tirelessly to support student learning and wellbeing, and we thank families for their ongoing partnership in ensuring students receive the best possible educational opportunities.
A particular highlight has been the way students have embraced leadership, collaboration, and responsibility—whether through student voice initiatives around the school’s vision and values work with Miss Bell or the recent Leadership Day with the Grade 9 students looking to be a part of the School Leadership Team in 2026. These experiences are vital in building the character and confidence we value so highly at Exeter.

CAIRNS TRIP
Day 1 -
Our Cairns group set off this morning bright and early! Despite the early start, the students were bright eyed and very excited. On arrival, we spent some free time at the Esplanade at lunch and were lucky enough to see the PNG festival, celebrating the anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence. We finished the afternoon with a swim at the pool.
Day 2 -
Today was a big day! We started at 6 am, ready to head out to Fitzroy Island. A few felt the effects of the boat ride out, but we arrived safely and quickly appreciated the beauty of the island. We spent the day exploring the beaches, participating in nature walks, visiting the turtle rehabilitation centre, and went on a glass bottom boat ride. We left the island very tired but having thoroughly enjoyed the day!
Day 3 -
Today, we ventured to the rainforest. We took the Skyrail up to Kuranda, went for a walk through the village and then took a bus to a Rainforest Education Centre. Here, we had a ride on the Army Duck, which took us by road through the rainforest before driving straight into a waterway and turning into a boat. We enjoyed a performance of traditional Aboriginal dances before seeing a demonstration of didgeridoo playing, spear throwing, and boomerang throwing. We all got to have a go at throwing the boomerang before enjoying lunch and boarding our scenic train ride back to Cairns. It was another great day!
Day 4 -
Today, we drove further north, crossed the Daintree River, searched for crocodiles, and flew through the trees. We got the chance to stop at Cape Tribulation Beach, wander through the rainforest, and learn about the mangroves. We then got to cruise the river with our guide, Ernie, who helped us search for crocodiles, and we were lucky enough to see a couple. We enjoyed a beautiful lunch before hitting the ziplines through what can only be described as a modern Jurassic World, minus the dinosaurs of course.
Day 5 & 6 -
Thank you, Cairns! We have had a brilliant week exploring tropical North Queensland. Our final day was spent at Hartley’s Crocodile Park and the Artillery Museum. We had fantastic weather, and the day was topped off with a final swim before getting ready to jet off home. From rainforests to gondolas, trains to crocodile hunting, ziplines to beaches, we have had an amazing week!
