2025 REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Looks like everything is on track with our redevelopment. Very exciting!
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

I continue to be impressed with the high levels of teaching and learning that are evident across our school every day. Our high levels of respect, connection, courage, responsibility and growth were evident to me last Friday night when our SLC hosted a trivia night at the Exeter Community Centre. Our students represented our school with pride, and they were truly outstanding ambassadors for all the community members who were present.
Work Placements are an invaluable activity that many of our Year 9 and Year 10 students undertake throughout the course of the year. These provide students with the opportunity to participate in authentic workplace situations where they can see exactly what it would be like if they were to pursue a particular occupation as their career pathway. Take the time to talk to your child about where they see themselves heading in a vocational sense, and get them to contact either Mr Stevenson or Mrs Saville about possible work placements in a field of interest to them.
Year 10 exams were held this week, and these provided students with the opportunity to experience exam-like conditions in a variety of subjects. This will be something they need to do in the coming years, whether in further education or employment where there is a study component. Students embraced this opportunity and applied themselves to the different exam sessions, which was fantastic to see. The students will benefit from this experience and feel more comfortable when they are faced with the challenge of exams in the future. Thank you to the Year 10 team for setting and marking these exams.
Several of our school bands participated in the 2025 annual Rock Challenge at The Door of Hope a couple of weeks ago. This was an amazing opportunity and experience for these students to perform in front of such a large audience. I’m sure they will continue to develop as young musicians under the tutelage of Mr Murfet.
Attendance continues to be something that we are focusing on, and it is important that we all work together to ensure each and every student is here every day. This allows students to learn lesson to lesson, without breaks in continuity. The research shows how daily attendance is one of the most important factors in students' success both academically and socially. It also sets students up to succeed in the workplace, where attendance is an expectation and compulsory. Please make sure that if your child is away from school for any reason, you contact the administration team with the reason so that our attendance records can be changed to reflect this.

TEACHER ASSISTANT APPRECIATION WEEK

Last week we celebrated our incredible TA team here at EHS!
Our TAs are there for our students in so many ways - from lending a hand in the classroom, to offering encouragement, to simply being that friendly face to check in with during the day. Their support makes a real difference and helps our school feel like a stronger, kinder community.
A huge thank you to our wonderful TAs for everything you do - we’re so lucky to have you!

INTERACT CLUB

Our EHS Interact Club recently attended the West Tamar Rotary meeting. These meetings are always enjoyed by all in attendance. Our members presented what they are working on currently in our school and the plans for the local and international community they will be working on for the rest of the year.
We were lucky enough to hear from past student Samantha Amos, who is currently studying in Sweden on a Rotary Exchange. We also heard from one of our current students, Rosemary Ford, reflecting on her experience competing in New Zealand in a debating competition.
We are very proud of the doors Rotary and Interact continue to open.
HANDS ON LEARNING

Earlier this year, Hands on Learning was successful in applying for a small grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund to help us establish a Hands on Learning precinct in the school. This will be a space where HoL students can gather, plan, build, share meals and share ideas.
Recently, we had a site visit with Sam the stonemason (and his trusty assistant) to start designing our first major project for the HoL precinct. We are planning to end the year with a bang, stay tuned!
OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Last week, our Year 8 Outdoor Education students were visited by Marine and Safety Tasmania - MAST. They learnt some valuable lessons about the importance of safety equipment on the water, including a hands-on look at life jackets and even setting off different types of flares!
A big thank you to MAST for providing this practical and engaging session - a great reminder of how to stay safe while enjoying Tasmania’s waterways.
WHITE CARD TRAINING

Recently, another large group of our Year 9 and Year 10 students completed their White Card training, an important step in opening up future opportunities in the construction industry.
A huge thank you once again to Impact Safety Group at Gravelly Beach for running the sessions and supporting our students in building valuable career pathways!
AGRICULTURAL STUDIES - HAGLEY FARM SCHOOL

Our Year 9/10 Agricultural Studies students had a fantastic day at the Growing the Future program at the Hagley Farm School Agricultural Learning Centre!
Students rotated through a range of hands-on activities, exploring trees on farms, soil science, agri-tech and the AgLogic weather station, as well as drone technology. These sessions gave them a real insight into the future of agriculture and the skills shaping the industry.
And as a bonus, they also got to see some of the newly born lambs on the farm.
A big thank you to Tristan, Mike and Liam for creating such a valuable learning experience - our students loved it!

YEAR 9/10 PHOTOGRAPHY EXCURSION

Recently, our Year 9/10 Photography students visited QVMAG to explore the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition currently on loan from London’s Museum of Natural History.
The rain eased enough for a photography walk through adjacent Royal Park beforehand, and light showers didn’t dampen any spirits!

EHS BUCKET HATS

With the weather warming up and UV levels on the rise, it’s the perfect time to grab an EHS bucket hat!
Our reversible hats ($15 each) feature the EHS logo on one side and our school house mascots on the other. They’re great for break times, PE, and the upcoming Term 4 Athletics Carnival.
Available in sizes S, M, L & XL - try on and purchase at the main office (cash or card), or order anytime via the Qkr! App.
Stay sun smart and show your school spirit!
